I Miss America!

Summer is effectively over in the real world so SL can start up again for those women who do too much. Like all of us!

Any way... much to do! The DNC starts in a few days and we CPers in SL are trying to get a few things going to support our RL sisters in pink in Denver. Feel free to join us. There will be walk throughs, banner drops, maybe a beauty pageant. Join the group Codepink SL in world to find out more, or IM Ana Herzog.

Ana made an "I Miss America" tiara from one that was floating around in her inventory ( (originally made by Datura Fairchild) by coloring it pink and putting a tag on the front. Isn't it darling?

And you know what? -- you can wear it to Burning Life.

Burning Life is sort of like Burning Man but in SL. This years theme is "American Dream."

Come get a copy of tiara on Women's Center. SLURL follows. http://slurl.com/secondlife/Womens%20Center/148/117/23

CODEPINK SL is an International Chapter.

Check out our official status! Rae, Liaison to Local Groups, from the National Level CODEPINK received a personal tour of Second Life on Monday, June 2nd. She was shocked and awed.... sorry.... couldn't resist and totally got it. She had a link for our SL chapter put up on the local's section of the main CODEPINK site -- we are under International. We will get a page too if we want it, or... should we use this blog as our site? Hmmm. Stuff for us to consider. We need to get info out about DNC and RNC actions too. SO MUCH to do! I will put up a few pics of our SL actions on the local action site.

We are official -- as official as CODEPINK gets anyway ;-) -- WOOT!

Check out our official status! Rae, Liaison to Local Groups, from the National Level CODEPINK received a personal tour of Second Life on Monday, June 2nd. She was shocked and awed.... sorry.... couldn't resist saying this.... and she "totally" got it.

Rae had a link for our SL chapter put up on the local's section of the main CODEPINK site. We will get a page too if we want it, or... should we use this blog as our site? Hmmm. Stuff for us to consider.

The Virtual World Chapter link on the Local Chapter Page uses the SLURL so you can just click it and open the application SECOND LIFE and your avatar will materialize at the HQ on Commonwealth Island. The International groups page lists all our contact info. and links to this blog too

The great thing about our virtual world chapter is that individuals who want to participate and brainstorm can access other pinkers even if there is no local chapter in their geo-locations at the moment with which to connect. A successful SL business women who happens to be canadian woman has helped us out tremendously. Japanese women have rocked some of our actions. A man in Venus Beach models peaceful feminist behavior for his teen daughter when he dedicates his time to behind the scenes constructions of objects and events. The northwest coast of the U.S. reliably sends women to actions. The Sonoran Desert is almost always represented in SL actions and processes. Austrailia, the U.K., Finnoscandia, Germany... our little group reflects an emergent state for cooperative social peace and justice group action.

Join us!

What's in a Name?

I have made an executive decision... for a while I was going to scrub this blog because of SL's attempt to claim no one can use the phrase Second Life or the dipthong SL without their consent. So in March I decided to start a different blog for us. I posted the following (via capture as a pic) to that blog, but it just didn't feel right. I'm changing our title here, but not the address/URL as that had already been listed on the CODEPINK site before SL began this campaign. CODEPINK sl is no different than CODEPINK pittsburg, or CODEPINK dc. It is simply an identification.

The title of this blog may change, but this is the url we are using for the CODEPINK c chapter in SL.

New Digs for CODEPINK SL

5 years too many!

It may seem like I've been neglecting CPSL, but many things have been happening behind the scenes.

Here I am in front of the new CP HQ on Commonwealth 4. No lag no more. Yes!!!!!! You can get there via this link to an SL url that will connect you to a page where you can activate Second Life if you have an active account. Commonwealth 4 is a new island on a class five server. The old location was just that -- old, slow and clunky.... but the new place absolutely whirs and hums contentedly. Envirolink (the RL entity behind Commonwealth) rocks!

And .... here I am in the temporary offices of CODEPINK on Avalon Isle where the Babel Project is located and with whom CODEPINK SL will be working to bring speakers and movies and more into SL about War, Peace, Iraq and other related topics. We will have a new and more permanent space in an as yet unbuilt non-profit tower on the island that should be appearing within a week or two.

I made this connection via attending discussions on Avalon by EU Parliament member, Paulo Casaca. More on that soon too. Where else but in SL can ordinary folks meet with world leaders who want to hear their questions and concerns?

Oh, yes, and for those SLers who couldn't get to CODEPINK meetings lately although you all made heroic (heroinic?) efforts..... I apologize. We have a zealous member scheduling regular meetings that aren't linked in to this network as well as we might hope and with my hard drive nose dive I couldn't even get on to give folks a heads up.

More soon, I promise!

Time, Place, etc. etc.

We had a small but productive meeting last week at our regular weekly meeting. We haven't planned out our actions for the 5th Anniversary of the U.S. invasion of and war upon Iraq as yet. But -- great ideas and energies were put forward.

Connections are what social movements are about - connecting with like minded people. Commonality and cooperation with individual responsibility for your overall life -- that is what I find most important about the energy of CODEPINK. The women, and men, I have met in Second Life are no less amazing than the women and men I have met in RL through CODEPINK. Women initiated and women led group dedicated to stopping war and getting us out of Iraq, now. We want to see CODE PINK declared rather than a code for fear such as Code Red, Code Orange, or Code Yellow.

Over the next few weeks some "physical location" or "address" changes will be in effect. Our first and foremost location in SL has been on Commonwealth Island at http://slurl.com/secondlife/Commonwealth%20Island/171/50/22. Lag has gotten to be problematic there as has the ability of the CODEPINK membership as a whole to use it as a base. We are addressing this problem along with a few others over the next few weeks.

For the time being we will be meeting on a platform over my land at Anhalt Hill that I refer to as Creative Pink Space. The SLURL is: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Anhalt%20Hill/98/65/496.

Tonight we will be getting down to brass tacks on how to observe the sad event of the the 5th anniversary of an ongoing war against Iraq by the U.S. And on a more joyous note, fill out our plans on how to observe International Women's Day here in SL.

See you there!

Real Life (RL from this point on) has a major learning curve to navigate to understand the Virtual World of Second Life (SL) -- SL is often described as a game, but it isn't, It is considered media by corporate entities like HBO who refused to allow the one time production and performance of a play to which they own the rights. All the things we know will be jumbled as this 21st Century progresses.

Our hope is that you will get to know the medium and be intrigued enough to help us build the world of activist networking and expression through this virtual world.
